
Jazmine Laura Sullivan was born in and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was once a backing singer at Philadelphia International Records. Her father offered her the job of curator at the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She and her family then moved into the historical landmark. The 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts student She is an instructor in the field of vocal music. Sullivan started singing in children's chorus as a contralto, before joining the adult choir just a few years afterwards. Sullivan had limited exposure to secular music. The singer recalls she was eleven when someone wanted her to sing as a soloist in church. The singer wasn't yet ready for. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to children from major cities. This competition provided me with the chance to perform The Grace God Gives On Showtime Apollo. My audiences were extremely supportive." In the year 13 she sang with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was initially signed to Jive Records at the age fifteen. When she was 15 she signed with Jive Records. She made an entire album there however it was never released. Sullivan was then dropped off the record label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded many of the tracks in her debut album such as the brash single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
